My father left when I was 3 years old. Okay, he and my mother divorced and she wanted him out. But, explain that to a little child. All I knew was that one day he was living with us and the next day he was gone. Of course, I saw him. But the absence in the home was baffling. I'm a tough girl and I have weathered many storms. I know how I became that way. You learn at a very young age, when your father leaves your home, that the world is not a stable place. As I became older, I saw all men as I saw my father. You never know when they're going to leave you. So, as a young woman, I chose to end every one of my relationships...even when they were good...just so the guy wouldn't leave me first! Who needed a repeat performance of that childhood experience? It took me years to figure this all out (and several degrees, too!) but I did. And I want to share my advice and thoughts with you. But, lets hear your story. First, I'd love to have you participate in my survey. It will not take you more then 3 minutes...unless you really start thinking about your childhood. Studies show that womens' relationships with their fathers have a very strong influence on their lives, particularly regarding the type of men that they are attracted to. It could be a very positive influence, especially if your memories of your father are positive. But, what happens if your memories are negative or even mixed? This is when we find ourselves in a dilemma. We search for men that are either completely different, strangely similiar or a mixed bag of character traits. Often times, what we don't do is consider what type of man would best be suited for our own personality and our own needs. It's as if we are trying to avoid something, because we are afraid of repeating a past relationship. So, we go the other way. Or, we want to fix something, heal a past relationship. So, we go the same way, seeking out men who reminds us of our father. Whichever way you find yourself on whatever path, the truth is that your very first relationship with the opposite sex, was with your father. And that relationship was more powerful then you could imagine. So, yes...the Father Daughter Effects are real. But, you already knew that, otherwise you wouldn't be here.
